Michael is the Chief Human Resources Officer at Josys, a Tokyo-based Series B SaaS Management Platform company that has raised more than $230 million in funding. Reporting directly to Founder and CEO Yasukane Matsumoto, he leads the company’s global people strategy, helping scale the organization from its “global from day one” foundation.

With more than 20 years of experience in HR, talent, and executive leadership, Michael has built and led high-performing People and Talent teams across startups and global technology companies. Prior to Josys, he served as VP of Recruiting and Executive Team member at Instacart, Recruiting Director at Uber and Salesforce, and held executive search leadership roles supporting Apple. Throughout his career, he has hired and developed teams of more than 50 professionals while partnering with CEOs and founders through periods of rapid growth.

In addition to his executive role, Michael is an Executive Coach, startup advisor, and investor. He advises founders and leadership teams on talent strategy, organizational growth, and scaling people functions, and serves as an advisor with PeopleTech Partners.

Having lived in Asia for more than two decades—plus seven years in San Francisco—Michael brings deep expertise in global leadership, cross-cultural teams, and international expansion. He is fluent in both Japanese and Chinese and regularly advises companies operating across the U.S. and Asia.

Outside of work, Michael is the father of three daughters and enjoys hosting backyard BBQs, CrossFit, running, and boxing.
